Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Eva Carter
The Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC, will
present the exhibition, Eva Carter: The Rock & Roll Show,
on view from May 5 through June 30, 2006. During the show's opening,
don't mistake the gallery for a biker bar, due to all the Harleys
out front.
The Stones. David Gilmore and Pink Floyd. The Who. Led Zeppelin
and Robert Plant. These guys are my age and they're still going
strong. Their music is timeless. I put it on and I just start
painting. It's the energy - it evokes emotions and opens the door
to my creativity.

We always did feel the same
We just saw it from a different point of view
Tangled up in Blue.

As song lyrics spill across the canvas, you may find yourself humming at this upcoming art exhibition.
Carter, nationally known for her unique Abstract
Expressionist paintings, is introducing a collection of surprising
mixed media work. This new series of paintings incorporates collaged
elements, printed material, text, and classic rock imagery.
Visually, all the excitement of Carter's characteristic style
of painting is evident in this group. The strong spatial compositions
are made up of graceful arcs of jewel-tones, deep strokes of black,
and penetrating yellows that suggest a light source is present
from within. Using an oil bar or graphite stick, moments of drawing
emerge from the energetic surface, and an overwhelming sense of
emotion is abstractly constructed.
Photographs of rock legends such as Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger appear from the layers of printed matter revealing a timeline of painterly events.
