The Fran Hanson Discovery Center in Clemson, SC, Offers Quilt Shows

The Fran Hanson Discovery Center at the South Carolina Botanical Garden at Clemson University in Clemson, SC, is offering the exhibition, The Nature of Quilts, featuring a year of quilt exhibits from South Carolina quilt artists at the Discovery Center Gallery, through Dec. 31, 2006. The yearlong exhibit will rotate quarterly and range from artistic quilts by Marilyn Wall, Diana Pickens, Elizabeth Belser Fuller, The Fringe Sisters group from the Midlands, African-American Inspirations from Clemson's Anna Willis and Sheila Gaines; and traditional quilts from the UpCountry Quilters Guild of Pickens County. There will be something for everyone to see and enjoy and is sure to provoke memories of your own family's quilt story.

A traveling exhibit, the Alaskan Fiber Festival Postcard Exhibit, will be on view from June 24 through July 21, 2006. This exhibit features 200 postcard size quilts from all over the world. South Carolina's Priscilla Hair, who exhibited earlier in 2005 with the Focus: Fiber Art exhibit was chosen to represent our state in the exhibit.

Also included in the yearlong exhibit is a two-day symposium on The Nature of Quilts. Plans are being confirmed now to include lectures and workshops from leading quilt artists and professionals.
