May Issue 2006
City of North Charleston, SC, Features Works by Yvonne Rousseau
The 2006 North Charleston Arts Festival Design Winner, Yvonne Rousseau, will exhibit her work at the North Charleston City Gallery, located at the North Charleston Performing Arts and Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston, SC, from May 5 - 31, 2006.
Rousseau's winning design has been printed
on thousands of Arts Festival brochures and hundreds of T-shirts
and posters for promotion. She has taken this opportunity to
exhibit a collection of her original paintings along with the
original Festival design. This exhibition, titled, Strokes
of Sound, Colors of Rhythm, will be comprised of acrylic and
watercolor paintings. Abstracts and landscapes as well as a jazz
series with dancers and musicians constitute the show.
Rousseau finds joy in working with a variety of subject matter
as she asks herself, "Will my challenge today be energetic
figures dancing through the light, the explosive lines, shapes,
and colors of an abstract or shifting shadows in plein aire painting?"
She notes that because her environment and imagination constantly
provide her with new feelings and ideas, she frequently finds
herself developing several works simultaneously.
As a child, Rousseau discovered the challenging,
rewarding, and therapeutic ways art could influence her life.
She earned her undergraduate degree from North Carolina A&T
University and her M.Ed. from UNC Greensboro.
