Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Paula Holtzclaw
A one-woman
show of new paintings by celebrated landscape artist Paula Holtzclaw
opens May 12 at Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC. The exhibition
will continue through June 16, 2006.
Entirely self taught, Holtzclaw has developed her distinct style
of realism over the past decade. She is especially renowned for
her "low country" landscapes which celebrate our beloved
Carolina coastline. In addition to her popular marsh paintings,
this show will feature scenes from the North Carolina Mountains
and surrounding rural areas.
Holtzclaw began painting professionally in
1997 after her twin boys were grown and has gradually built a
loyal following among regional collectors. Her innate ability
to observe and recreate natural detail is evident in the intentionally
vast scale of her subject matter. Admirers of her work respond
to her environmental integrity and the universal appeal of the
"unspoiled landscape," as they recognize or are reminded
of a familiar family retreat, childhood home place, or sacred
personal haven.
Holtzclaw's paintings convey the pristine tranquility and calm
we all would like to associate with the physical and emotional
experience of "coming home." By seeking out the uncompromising
landscape, she pays homage to the duality of nature; at once majestic
and vulnerable. Holtzclaw's paintings speak to the importance
of conservation and environmental stewardship by presenting an
untainted and present-day depiction of natural beauty.
Holtzclaw's paintings are included among private
and corporate collections throughout the nation. She currently
resides in Waxhaw, NC, with her husband, and their golden retriever.
