Richard James Galleries in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Douglas Grier

Local Lowcountry artist Douglas Grier will be showcasing new original artwork during his one man show, Simply Low Country, at the Richard James Galleries in Charleston, SC, from May 5 through June 9, 2006.

Grier began drawing and painting as a teenager, selling his first painting at the age of 14. As interests changed in teen years, he strayed from painting, but not from drawing, while spending time in college and the Marine Corps. With the encouragement of his new bride, Debbie, he again took up the brush. A self-taught artist, Grier worked at his painting for 10 more years while pursuing a career in pharmaceutical sales before leaving to open his own gallery in Greenville, SC.

Grier has since sold his art gallery and both he and Debbie are now happily living on Edisto Island, SC, where he has more time to paint the local and southwest subjects he loves. Grier paints with attention to detail, light and texture, capturing a feeling that gives life to his subjects. "I try to paint a feeling or a mood, through light, shadow and texture, not just a picture. If I can give someone a moment of escape from the everyday world through a painting, then we've shared something, and that's important." His paintings are in many private and corporate collections including collector Barbara Streisand.

The Richard James Galleries is thrilled to have Grier showcase twenty new originals for sale during his showcase.
