Asheville Area Arts Council in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Robin August
The Asheville Area Arts Council in Asheville, NC, will present the exhibit, Spirits from the Forest, featuring works by Robin August, on view in the Boardroom Gallery, from May 4 through June 29, 2007.
August interprets the impact of the stunning natural beauty of Asheville in her mixed media exhibit, Spirits from the Forest. She utilizes natural materials such as leaves, grasses, and wildflowers, as well as decorative papers. August pieces seem to reach out tactually to the observer through use of color, form and texture. She attempts to express grounded-ness and conversely, a reaching out for a spiritual connection to a larger universe.
August underwent life-changing events when she became disabled and could no longer work in her profession as a psychologist. She moved to Asheville and made a commitment to heal, spending time in the forests surrounding her home. August experienced incredible spiritual energy and rebirth in nature; and out of that, sprang the joyous journey that she calls her art.
