City of Charleston Offers 2007 Annual Piccolo Juried Exhibition
Celebrating its 29th year, Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the official outreach arm of Spoleto Festival USA, presents works by some of South Carolina's finest artists in the 2007 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition, on view at the Charleston Visitor Center in Charleston, SC. The exhibit, sponsored by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs and coordinated by the Charleston Artist Guild will be on view from May 25 through June 8, 2007. An Awards Ceremony will be held on June 3 from 5-7pm.
One of the two outstanding jurors for the competition will be Alex Powers, for Painting and 2 dimensional works. Powers is an accomplished painter and self-employed art teacher. He exhibits in galleries in six states. Among his many national juried exhibition awards is the Gold Medal at the 1997 American Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition. Powers travels the United States and Canada, teaching 6 to 8 workshops per year. He has juried many exhibitions and is the author of Painting People in Watercolor, A Design Approach. Powers is a resident of Myrtle Beach, SC.
Nancy Santos will be the juror for fine art photography works. She studied at the Art Institute of Boston. She is currently Publications Photographer for the College of Charleston and previously was the sole photographer for the Charleston City Paper. Santos has received a number of national, state and local awards for her newspaper photography and has also served as photography juror for a number of exhibitions.
