Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Joseph Paquet
Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, will present an exhibition entitled, Largely Florence, featuring paintings of Italian landscapes by Joseph Paquet, on view from May 4 through June 2, 2007. These plein air paintings provide an intimate view of Paquet's immersion in the eternal romance of Florence and the Tuscan landscapes. This exhibition has taken three years for Paquet to prepare, and is his most powerful collection. Working on location in Italy allowed him to capture not only the images but also his emotional reactions to the setting.
"To make you see what I have seen is part of the objective," said Paquet, "but to have you feel what I have felt is the ultimate goal. Capturing an effect is capturing the emotion of a place, time or moment. The more specific the moment, the more singular the emotion."
Paquet, 44, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of the Visual Arts in New York. After graduation he studied under John Osborne, whose large canvases filled with textural landscapes became a major influence.
"I learned avenues of expression I wouldn't have believed possible," Paquet said.
Paquet lives in St. Paul, MN, where he teaches at the Hurinenko and Paquet Studio. A member of the American Society of Classical Realism and Plein Air Painters of America, his work is one of just 50 artists to tour the nation in the prestigious museum show, From Sea to Shining Sea. He has a long history of winning competitions and, last year, won the 2006 Award of Excellence at the Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational.
