Fountainside Gallery in Wilmington, NC, Features Works by Rick McClure
Nationally known painter and teacher, Rick McClure of Oklahoma, will open his Urban Images exhibit at Fountainside Fine Art Gallery in Wilmington, NC, on May 26. The exhibit continues through June 17, 2007.
With subjects ranging from the Brooklyn Bridge to San Francisco to Wilmington's Market Street, McClure's deft brushwork captures the excitement and motion of the city. Filtered light, tail lights, reflections glancing from windows, taxis and pedestrians in transit form the myriad components of these sparkling canvases. Although a resident of Oklahoma, McClure travels to North Carolina a couple of times a year to paint and teach workshops; some of the new pieces are a result of former excursions east.
An award-winning plein-aire painter, McClure has been painting professionally for more than 25 years. Throughout his career he has enjoyed great success with a variety of media including watercolor, acrylic and oil, executing landscapes, cityscapes and large figurative work with an equal degree of finesse. While doing work in the studio and outdoors, he has found his true passion in working "en plein-aire", often using his small studies as the basis for the large studio works. McClure's free, painterly approach to recording locations here and abroad has made him popular with collectors and students nationwide.
McClure has captured numerous awards including those at the Best of the Southwest Juried Exhibition, the 71st Grand National Exhibition of the Salmagundi Club in NY and most recently, the American Impressionist Society's National Exhibition. McClure is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the National Academy of Professional Plein Air Painters and the American Impressionist Society. His work is part of numerous corporate and private collections.
