Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Jimmy Craig Womble, II
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, is presenting the exhibit, From Beaufort to Beaufort, featuring works by Jimmy Craig Womble, II, on view through May 22, 2007.
Womble is one of the most exciting young painters to emerge in recent years who's focus is firmly on the landscape and coastal scenes of Eastern North Carolina. Born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC, and a graduate of the School of Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, Womble has spent his life in the very landscape he now paints. This long affiliation has lead to a particular interest not in the bucholic scenes one might expect, but instead views of rusty old trucks, ramshakle boats in drydock and the fast disappearing tobacco barns, overtaken by time and development. With a loose, painterly style, Womble shows us the majesty and beauty in the ordinary things we would all to often overlook.
Womble is also a gifted muralist and, in a recent competition in Beaufort, NC, he won first place. The prize - a trip to Beaufort's sister city in France where Womble participated in an international mural competition. This exhibition at Gallery C will feature new works from across eastern North Carolina as well as from across the Atlantic in the Loire Valley of France. The artist was inspired by the scenery and has brought back a wealth of new images for us to enjoy.
