Horton Hayes Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Shannon Runquist and Nancy Hoerter
Horton Hayes Fine Art in Charleston, SC, will present two exhibits including: Southern Bounty, featuring the first solo exhibition of works by Shannon Runquist, on view from May 3 - 31, 2007, and Light and Shadow, featuring a new series of works by Nancy Hoerter, on view from May 17 through June 10, 2007.
Shannon Runquist
Southern Bounty presents an array of Southern themed works. The bounty of the fields and sea are pictured in bold still life representations along with nostalgic montages of the objects, places and events that define the southern experience. "In this grouping, I've drawn a good deal from my own mental imagery of growing up in the South," says Runquist. "I think that most southerners share memories of trips to the shore, state fairs, backyard oyster roasts and time spent in rural areas. I've painted the objects that evoke those experiences and in some way shape the Southern spirit."
Nancy Hoerter
Light and Shadow will showcase Nancy Hoerter's well-recognized still life paintings along with several landscape scenes. Each composition in this grouping is infused with light, creating fascinating arrangements that accentuate the range of hues in the subjects.
Hoerter has keenly focused on the way objects are illuminated, the intensity and angle of the light, and the shadows created. Indeed, these paintings are as much about the presence of light as they are about the objects or views portrayed.
