May Issue 2007
Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Russell Gordon and Kim Weiland
The Wells Gallery is proud to present new works in oil and watercolor by artists Russell Gordon and Kim Weiland. The exhibit will open on May 4 and continue through May 18, 2007.
Russell Gordon
Known for his still lifes in oil, New York artist Russell Gordon joins precise Realism with a painterly luminosity, a stylistic combination reminiscent of Italian Mannerism and 17th century Dutch and Flemish paintings. Even his materials reflect those of the past: he manufactures his own paint using a medium reformulated from that employed by Flemish artists. Gordon's broad range of subject matter featured shows a decidedly contemporary viewpoint, often enlivened by his highly personalized sense of humor.
Kim Weiland
Originally from Pennsylvania, Kim Weiland moved to Ocean City, NJ, to be closer to the water, one of his constant inspirations in painting. Finding much of his influence from the ever-changing story of the East Coast, the serene influences of the coast soon found a stronghold in his style and his medium. Weiland primarily paints in watercolor, and believes that the transparent qualities of the medium respond well to the color and light of the coast. In 1999, Weiland received the status of signature member in the American Society of Marine Artists, where he served as president in 2003.
