Asheville Area Arts Council in Asheville,
NC, Features Works by Eric Carl Wolfgang Knoche
Asheville Area Arts Council in Asheville, NC, will present the exhibit, Some Assembly Required, featuring works by Eric Carl Wolfgang Knoche, in the Boardroom Gallery, from May 2 through June 28, 2008.
Knoche earned his Bachelors degree from the
University of Minnesota and apprenticed with artist Jeff Shapiro
from 2004-2006. He has a studio at Clay Space Co-op in Asheville's
River Arts District and has taught at Odyssey Center for the Ceramic
Arts. His interests in art and anthropology have taken him to
India and Thailand. Later this year, he will be traveling to Japan
to study with a revered master ceramist.
In this new body of ceramic sculpture, Knoche reconnoiters a visual
lexicon of anthropologically derived abstractions. The works reference
forms as disparate as machined metal and bone; and the surfaces,
which evoke desert patina, coral, granite and oxidized iron, reflect
Knoche's explorations of non-traditional wood fired surfaces.
Many of the works are modular and require disassembly to reveal
their full character.
