May Issue 2008

Fountainside Gallery in Wilmington, NC, Features Group Exhibition

One of the most interesting and varied shows of the season is Snapshots, presented by Fountainside Gallery in Wilmington, NC, on view from May 23 - June 30, 2008. Consisting of works by 14 gallery artists and 6 guest artists, all working in formats of 12" x 16" and under, this exhibit literally has something for everyone!  By keeping the size small, viewers can see a cross section of the work of each artist in one exhibit. Each artist has entered 3-5 paintings created expressly for the show; subjects range from children on the beach, to wildlife, to still life and landscape. Media includes oil, acrylic and pastel. These are the perfect sizes for gifts or that special small area in the home or office.

Styles vary from realism to impressionism and expressionist works. The varied elements in composition, palette and subject matter cover an interesting range of what inspires each individual.

Gallery artists include MT McClanahan, Sandy Nelson, Mary Rountree Moore, Paula Holtzclaw, and Kathy Ammon, all from North Carolina, Rick McClure from Oklahoma, Kathleen Newman from Illinois, Anda Styler from Connecticut, Andre Kohn from Arizona, Christine Debrosky from New York, Barrie VanOsdell, Kevin LePrince, Chris Groves and Tami Cardnella are from South Carolina, Qiang Huang from Texas and David Weiss from Nebraska.

Guest artists are Rani Garner from California, Madeline Dukes from South Carolina, Angela Nesbit from North Carolina and Jane Ford from Colorado.

This exhibit introduces works by several new Fountainside Gallery artists including Chris Groves and Qiang Huang and relative newcomers David Weiss and Anda Styler.

Some artists such as McClanahan, McClure, Rountree, Debrosky, Styler, VanOsdell, Groves, Weiss, Garner and Dukes have submitted all landscapes, both coastal and rural, while Newman has added cityscapes to her collection. Paula Holtzclaw has varied her pieces by adding still life to the marsh scenes and Qiang Huang added landscape to his still lifes. Painters Kohn, Nesbit, Ammon and Ford have created only figure pieces for the exhibit while Nelson added figure to her landscapes. LePrince and Cardnella round out the variations on a theme by exhibiting water birds as subjects. Visually, this exhibit proves that small can be monumental in scope, interest and impact.

To celebrate the kickoff of the summer season, each Saturday during the exhibit, Fountainside Gallery will be providing refreshments for visitors to the show, so if you're tired of the beach and shopping, here's the perfect antidote!
