Green Rice Gallery in Charlotte, NC,
Features Works by Eric Hurtgen
Green Rice Gallery, a fine arts gallery showcasing the works of
over 100 talented local and national artists in Charlotte, NC,
will feature local Charlotte artist, Eric Hurtgen, from May 2
- 31, 2008.
Hurtgen spent his late teens and early twenties experimenting with graffiti art and post-rock music. After a period of soul-searching, Hurtgen graduated to canvas in the late 90's where he began to meld his illustrative street art style with a more expressionistic palette.
Influenced by the visual work of Mark Rothko, the music of My Bloody Valentine and the poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Hurtgen slowly began to construct his own visual language. Although mostly self-taught, recently Hurtgen has been training with European artists, Andrei and Amanda Prychodko, studying the sketches of the early masters in order to capture some of the foundational aspects of line and form. Hurtgen's latest work is rumination on remembered childhood dreams and the role faith played in his earliest memories.
