Hamlet Fine Art Gallery in Charleston,
SC, Features Works by Jennifer Black
Hamlet Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, The Venice Experience, featuring oil paintings from an extended stay in Venice by Jennifer Black, on view from May 2 - 31, 2008.
Established local artist, Jennifer Black, is presenting a new collection of oil paintings inspired from her two-week stay in an apartment in the heart of the lively Cannaregio district of Venice, Italy. The apartment faced a narrow street with the relaxing sounds of every day Venetian life floating up softly into the living room. Lulled by the chorus of Venetian street life, Black spent her afternoons painting by the open window. The subjects vary from colorful canal and street scenes to stunning market vegetables. The exhibit takes you on a nostalgic tour of a city that is unique in the world.
Drawing since age 8, Black graduated with a degree in art from Florida State University. To hone her skills, she has studied extensively with local and nationally known artists. The combination of her painterly style and dramatic use of color and light has made her work highly in demand. "The way light falls on objects is what fascinates me and is what I look for when choosing a subject", says Black. Her paintings have won many awards and are in private and corporate collections all over the country and overseas.
Black has lived in Charleston for 30 years, except for taking opportunities to live on a South Pacific island and in Spain for several years. Paintings are created in her studio in her home on the Ashley River marsh, while her husband and artistic teammate, Charlie, a woodturner, works in his adjacent studio.
