Lincoln County Economic Development
Association in Lincolnton, NC, Offers Works by Area Artists
The Lincoln County Economic Development Association
(LEDA) in Lincolnton, NC, announces its inaugural exhibition,
LEDA Art Invitational '08, a collaborative effort between
LEDA and regional, professional artists to showcase the cultural
richness of Lincoln County to visitors from both outside the area
as well as to local business, community, and civic leaders who
visit their facility, while providing additional exposure to Lincoln
County artists. The exhibit begins May 1 and will run through
Dec. 31, 2008
.
Tom Owen
Ginny Boyd
The artists invited to exhibit their original works of two-dimensional art between May 1 - July 31, 2008, include: Karen Banker, Ginny H. Boyd, Lynn Dermott, Tom Owen, Dene Scott Smith, Zac Vinson, Kae Wright, and Beth Yarbrough.
All artists selected have either lived and/or worked in Lincoln County and are professional artists. Mary Whisonant, art history professor, emerita, at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, is serving as the guest curator for the exhibit's first rotation.
"I'm honored to have been selected" states Beth Yarbrough. "I couldn't be happier with the exposure to the many corporate and community leaders who will enter the LEDA facility and see my artwork. As a professional artist who licenses my work to large corporations, this opportunity is welcomed and appreciated."
"We're thrilled to be showcasing the depth of talent available to businesses who take interest in making Lincoln County their home and place of business" says Barry Matherly, Executive Director of LEDA. "Lincoln County has far more cultural richness to offer than what may first appear on the surface. We're excited about promoting our artists to visitors."
Karen Banker
States Karen Banker, organizer of the exhibit, 'I love seeing people working together for a common goal. With Lincoln County growing at such a rapid pace, it's important that we highlight all that we have to offer to the outside world. Showcasing the incredible artwork of our county's professional artists is a good place to start."
The idea for the Art Invitational was sparked when Banker approached Matherly about his plans for filling the wall space of the newly constructed building. Upon his reply, Banker suggested using the space to showcase the cultural richness of Lincoln County to visiting guests by displaying original artwork produced by professional artists who have lived or worked in Lincoln County. Seeing the benefits, Matherly took the idea to LEDA's board and it was approved.
To keep the showcasing of cultural richness
fresh, the LEDA Art Invitational '08 will consist of three
rotations of original works from invited artists. The first rotation
will run May 1- July 31, 2008. The second rotation is scheduled
for Aug. 1 - Oct. 31, 2008 with the third rotation marked for
Nov. 1 - Dec. 31, 2008. The 2008 exhibit will focus on two-dimensional
artwork with the possibility of three-dimensional artwork being
considered for alternating future years.
