The Anderson County Arts Center in Anderson, SC, will have on view through June 29 Lights, Camera, Action: Philippe Halsman's Hollywood.

This exhibition, on loan from the Syracuse University Art Collection, features photographs of the brightest stars of the post war era from Bob Hope to Bing Crosby to Carole Channing and Lucille Ball. These Hollywood icons responded to photographer Philippe Halsman with emotion and depth revealing deep insight into their true personality!

According to publicity materials from the Syracuse University Art Collection, Philippe Halsman began his career as a photographer at the age of 15. By his 20's, he was living in Paris photographing writers & actors of the avant-garde scene. He gained notoriety with his exhibitions and his work was sought by magazines such as Vogue and Vu.

In 1940, with the help of Albert Einstein, he emigrated to the New York City, where he struggled for two years before photographing his first cover for Life magazine. He would go on to photograph a record one hundred and one covers for the magazine.

Also Featured in this exhibit are Portrait Perspectives, photographs by local photographer Charlie Jordan and Photographic Memorabilia from David Vandiver.
