Walk About Art Show Featured in Black Mountain, NC
Artists and businesses in Black Mountain, NC, are staging a Walk About Art Show during the month of June sponsored by the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League.
"This is a new venture for Black Mountain and for the region," said Ann Whisenant, Exhibit Chairman. "Nothing like the Walk About has been held in the area before. Instead of going to one gallery to view art, people will walk around downtown Black Mountain and look at works of local artists displayed by various businesses."
Walk About guide brochures will be available at the Chamber of Commerce and participating stores. Walkers can tour the exhibit at their own pace for a day or two, or even a week, to complete the tour, since the artwork will be displayed all month.
The event provides Walk About viewers a chance to visit many of our merchants they might not otherwise know about, and to become familiar with the considerable and varied talent of Black Mountain artists. All art on display will be for sale.
More than 20 businesses are participating. Identifying yellow and black Walk-About posters will be displayed by exhibitors.
"We are holding the Walk About in conjunction with The Annual Arts and Crafts Show put on by The Depot," said Whisenant. "Many styles and genres of painting and photography are represented," she said, "from realism to abstract."
"Walk About viewers can learn something about the each artist - many of whom are multiple award winners - from the biographies displayed with their work."
"The Walk About shows the artistic influence in our community is alive and well," said Rita Vermillion, proprietor of the Catawba Sunrise Gallery on State Street. "It's an exciting new concept for our town that will bring people into more shops than they've been in before."
