The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre will present an exhibit of pencil and charcoal by local artist J. Carol Gardner, June 17 through July 15, entitled Moments in Time.

J. Carol Gardner was born in Spartanburg, SC, and moved to Charleston in 1993. She received her BFA and M.Ed. from Converse College. She is a Signature Member of the South Carolina Water Color Society, and her painting of rooster Struttin', is currently touring the state with the Annual South Carolina Water Color Society Traveling Exhibition. She recently exhibited in Saul Alexander Gallery at the Charleston County Library and was chosen to exhibit in the 2001 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition. The winner of numerous awards, Gardner's drawings and paintings hang in many private and corporate collections nationwide. Her work is shown at the Carolina Foothills Artisan Center. She has worked with internationally known artists Robert Cottingham and Janet Fish.

Gardner comments on her work: "The Past...The Present...The Eternal...The Strong... The Weak...The Obvious...The Mysterious... What is it that connects us all? This is what I try to capture in my drawings and paintings. I want to express the essence of my subjects at a particular moment in time using the classical methods of art."
