June Issue 2002
Spencer Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Laurie Meyer
The Spencer Art Gallery in Charleston, SC,
will feature a special exhibit entitled, Breaking Out,
by Mt. Pleasant, SC, artist Laurie Meyer from June 7 - 30, 2002.
"Meyer is a very multi-talented artist," says gallery
owner Jerry Spencer. "She is best known for her outstanding
watercolor portraits of children and adults at play, capturing
the very essence of her subjects. She also reaches into depicting
everyday scenes of people and places in watercolor and oil. As
a muralist, she is much in demand."
"Figures are typically found in her paintings, yet she also
enjoys painting the architecture of Charleston and other cities
with European influence. Her outstanding color sense and her thorough
understanding of design concepts are obvious in her work,"
Spencer continues.
Meyer's background includes experience as an award winning editorial
cartoonist. After a first love of drawing, she studied watercolor
and oil painting using traditional self-study methods as well
as studying under various local professionals. In her career as
a professional artist, Meyer has been honored with numerous awards
and ribbons. Her paintings can be found in numerous private collections
throughout the Southeast.
Meyer also serves the arts and the community at large. She has
served as the President of the Mt. Pleasant Artist Guild for two
years. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer's
Association for eight years and has served as Vice President and
Coordinator for the Art of Alzheimer's Project. The Spencer Art
Gallery is very pleased to have the opportunity to show the work
of Laurie Meyer.
