Generations: The Camp Meeting Traditions Among African-Americans in South Carolina, a photography exhibit by Minuette Floyd, will be on display in the Wachovia Gallery of the Richland County Public Library in Columbia, SC, beginning June 4. The exhibit, which features a black and white photo documentary of camp meetings in South Carolina, will run through July 20, 2003.
Photographer Minuette Floyd
Floyd's
interest in camp meetings derived from her personal experiences
of attending camp meetings in North Carolina. This exhibit examines
the traditions, history, events and spirit of the camp meetings
as seen through the eyes of adults and children. This exhibit
is funded in part by the SC Arts Commission, which receives support
from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the South Carolina
Humanities Council.
A graduate of Winston-Salem State University, Floyd also holds
a masters degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
and a doctorate degree from Florida State University. Currently
an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina, she
serves on the education advisory committee for the Columbia Museum
of Art and the advisory council for the McKissick Museum.
