South Carolina Watercolor Society Hosts 27th Annual Exhibition in Aiken, SC - Show Winners Announced
The South Carolina Watercolor Society's 27th Annual Awards Exhibition is on display at the Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, SC, through June 26, 2004. From the 192 entries submitted by society members statewide and guest artists from the Augusta, GA, area, the juror, Warren Taylor, AWS, NWS, selected 80 paintings for the exhibition and $10,000 in artist awards were presented to the top 30 artists.
Taylor, who teaches at Midlands College, Texas, has had his work included in Watercolor USA, American Watercolor Society, and National Watercolor Society exhibits and has earned signature memberships in each of these organizations. He continues to lecture and teach workshops at universities including Midwestern State, Ball State, Cal-Poly, and Baylor. He taught at Chautauqua Institution in NY, Texas Tech and Springmaid Beach Workshops. His work is part of numerous prominent pubic and private collections nationally as well as included in many books and periodicals featuring 20th Century American watercolor.
After the jury process, Taylor said, "It's a pleasure to see the rich swath of creativity showcased in this year's South Carolina Watercolor Society Exhibition. This wonderful diversity must surely come from the loveliest gifts we Americans have: Freedom of expression. But with this freedom and space, comes the conviction that it be a landscape traversed and not observed from a stationary place. Artists who really sense this freedom must search for originality and those sparks of creativity that stem from our uniqueness as individuals. The departure point is there, and we need only start moving through the wonderful realm of ideas and opportunities that come differently to us. Our paths only start somewhat the same. We each go into a differing terrain both in life experience and also in our inner thinking. It is in the arts that our unique dignity as individuals becomes the jewel of our civilization. Thanks to the SCWS for this opportunity, both to artists and to the viewing public."
