June Issue 2004
Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, Celebrate Second Anniversary with Group Exhibit
June, 2004, marks the second anniversary for
Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC. The gallery, which only
exhibits work by North and South Carolina artists, is celebrating
with a month-long group show entitled simply, Low Country Images.
The show features works by several artists
including Pawleys Island, SC, artist Terry O'Donnell known for
his coastal Carolina oil paintings. O'Donnell is a self-taught
artist who began as a child, gave it up during a 37 year stint
in the steel mills and started painting again at age 65.
Audrey McLeod
Brenda Gentzler
The work of another Pawleys Island artist,
Brenda Gentzler, is also being exhibited. Gentzler works in watercolor
and is known for her Charleston, SC, cityscapes. Sue Coley from
North Myrtle Beach, SC, favors acrylic and paints on stretched
canvas, old weathered barn wood and a host of other materials.
Audrey L. McLeod lives and paints on the Black River in Georgetown,
SC. She works in oil, watercolor and acrylic. Her love for the
low country is evident in every painting.
At press time, the selection process for the show was continuing.
Gallery owner Ginny Lassiter expects to include the work of at
least three more artists.
"You won't want to miss the second anniversary celebration
on June 18," said Lassiter, "We're going to have some
special entertainment." Rock Fretz, formerly with Carolina
Opry, will be performing a Music Canvas event, which he describes
as " an instrumentalist with a knack for composing on the
fly joins an artist with canvas ready for an abstract adventure."
The energetic collaboration between musician and artist combine
with audience interaction to create a unique form of entertainment.
