June Issue 2005
Artspace in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Wendy Savage and Annette Rogers
Artspace in Raleigh, NC, will present two exhibitions including: Water Marks: Exploring the Invisible, featuring photographic images by Wendy Savage in the Upfront Gallery, and Variations on the Square, featuring paintings by Annette Rogers in the Lobby Gallery. Both exhibits will be on view from June 3 - 25, 2005.
Wendy Savage
Water Marks began
as an experiment for Wendy Savage. To create these images, she
paints in Petri dishes filled with water and oil and then photographs
the transformations. She records moments in time that signify
cycles and transitions. The marks act as a metaphor for the evolutionary
process. They are about a living creative force that has infinite
potential, enabling the viewer to see into a fold in time and
space that would normally be invisible to the eye.
Savage holds an MFA in Visual Arts from The Art Institute of Boston
at Lesley University and a BA in Visual Arts from Florida State
University. Her award-winning photography has been featured in
numerous exhibitions. She is a member of the Professional Photographers
of America, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals,
Photoworkshop.com, the Artspace Artists Association, and the Durham
Art Guild.
Annette Rogers
Annette Rogers' new series of paintings focuses on her continued interest in surface space and texture. Rogers notes that nature's own processes are involved in the development of the paintings: building up and wearing away; hiding and revealing; and smoothing and scratching.
Rogers graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Her work has been widely exhibited and is included in many private and corporate collections. She is a member of the Artspace Artists Association, the Watercolor Society of NC, and the Capital Art League in Raleigh.
