Green Hill Center for NC Art in Greensboro, NC, Offers Part II of Exhibition Featuring NC Instructors and Students
The second of a two-part exhibition taking an inside look at the reciprocal influence of teacher and student through their art and writings will be on view through July 10, 2005, at the Green Hill Center for NC Art in Greensboro, NC. The exhibition, Hand to Hand: A Legacy of North Carolina Painters - Part II, pays tribute to two renowned artists/mentors, the late Andrew Martin (1923-1997) and Peter Agostini (1913-1993), and features works by twenty of their former art students, now accomplished North Carolina artists.
In addition to a wide selection of paintings by the participating artists (along with works of Agostini and Martin owned by many of these artists/former students) the exhibition includes writings by many of the artists conveying their admiration of these legendary teachers.
Peter Agostini and Andrew Martin taught at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (late 1960s to mid 80s) during a very formidable and stimulating time in the art school, attracting visiting artists, faculty, and students of great talent. They were among the most influential of the art teachers who visited and became an integral part of the faculty.
Represented and highlighted in this exhibition, along with their paintings, are twenty of the many artists / former students so inspired by the instruction, talent, and friendship of Agostini and Martin. Now accomplished artists, recognized locally, throughout the state, and beyond, they demonstrate an artistic quality, integrity, and shared experience that continues to inspire and enrich. . . from one hand to another.
Participating artists include: Raymond Berry, Keith Buckner, Rebecca Fagg, Richard Fennell, Timothy Ford, Elizabeth Lentz, Sarah Hillmer, Jeff Joyce, Henry Link, Philip A. Link, Jeremiah Miller, Bruce Shores, Breck Smith, Christopher Stephens, Jack Stratton, Linda Tavernise, Guillermo Velasco, Anne Wilkinson, Virginia Wright-Frierson, and Mary Young.
Works of Agostini and Martin on exhibition are primarily from the collections of the participating artists.
A color brochure with essays by participating artists, Raymond Berry and Rebecca Fagg, are available free of charge at the gallery and can be viewed online
