June Issue 2005

Hayes George Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Three Artists

Hayes George Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibition, Trying to Touch what Disappears, featuring works by Mayme Kratz, Cynthia Fusillo and David deVillier. The exhibit of paintings and sculpture will be on view from June 3 through July 8, 2005.

Cast resin, found natural elements, steel, wood, and the written word are just a few materials these artist use to try and capture what disappears. One artist incorporates the poems into the work itself, while the others hint at the poetic elements with just a line or verse appearing in the title.

Included in the exhibition are 16 "Knots" by Mayme Kratz. She expresses the poetic element a bit differently in this work. Each "knot" is like a journal entry, complete unto itself but in relation to the whole it speaks to a larger voice and time.

Cynthia Fusillo

Cynthia Fusillo is an American living in Barcelona, Spain. She is both a published poet and an accomplished artist. "St. Alban" is a collogue comprised of 28 low relief plaster on panel tiles and relates directly to the poem by the same name.

David deVillier is a narrative artist, his work is poetry expressed through image, a story told through pictures and symbols. The relationship between subject and surroundings is lyrical and thought provoking.
