Wilkes Art Gallery in North Wilkesboro, NC, Features New Exhibitions
The Wilkes Art Gallery in North Wilkesboro, NC, is presenting, Art Mix, an exhibit featuring works by a group of women who meet monthly to network and a solo exhibit of works by Andy Thomason. Both exhibitions are on view through July 9, 2005.
Art Mix is a group of ten women artists who live in and around the mountains of North Carolina. The group works in a wide variety of different styles and materials including cloth, metal, acrylic, oil, pastel, pen, clay and watercolor. Art Mix members meet monthly for encouragement and critique and periodically exhibit as a group in venues across NC.
Nine members of the group will be exhibiting at the Wilkes Art Gallery. Participating members include: Mary Anne Caplinger of Cincinnati, OH, Betty Powell of Wilkesboro, Ora Owen of North Wilkesboro, Julie Willis of Purlear, Orna Bentor of Boone, Barbara Timberman of Newland, Anne Burgess of Blowing Rock, Kim Lewis of Boomer of Boomer and Judy McNeill of Statesville.
Andy Thomason resides in Hickory, NC. He recalls feeling an intense love for painting and self-expression since childhood. He claims painting is what he loves most.
In an interview with the Hickory News, Thomason said, "he is inspired by the natural surroundings and tries to incorporate the visual experience and emotional expression to interpret the importance of art in conjunction with the human experience."
The paintings included in this exhibit are colorful, expressive works. Many are abstract interpretations of landscapes and the natural world.
