Green Rice Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by David Ritland

Green Rice Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present, New Works by David Ritland, on view from June 2 through July 1, 2006.

Ritland, currently living in Florida, has been exhibiting with Green Rice Gallery for 3 years. His current body of work, comprised of elements of organic origin, pit flora against fauna, nature and man against each other in the same conversation; to consider the notion of symbiosis and the reciprocal interaction that exists between all things great and small. Ritland feels his life experiences have shown a surprising degree of connection between seemingly disparate things, and his work serves to reiterate this.

Often Ritland's pieces germinate with the conception of a new process entirely or a variation of an existing one. "My perception of the process, its strengths and weaknesses, help me to pick a subject and theme for the work. Usually a new process requires some experimentation to determine feasibility and potential pitfalls. I have a list of subjects, a series of elements which I can compare against each other and against my process. Eventually I resolve the conflict between 'what' and 'with what,' and continue on into a series of push-and-pulls where the work oscillates between stable and dynamic, balanced and fluid." This oscillation can occur between color choice, texture, and movement.

Ritland works in a variety of mediums from wood to canvas to clay.
