Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Paul Resika

The Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibition, An Introduction - Paintings, Pastels, Prints, featuring works by Paul Resika, on view through July 1, 2006.

Jerald Melberg Gallery is honored to introduce Resika with his first solo exhibition at the gallery. A New York City native, Resika began studying with Hans Hoffman in 1947 when he was just 19 years old. A master of color and gesture in his own right, Resika is well known for boldly hued paintings of piers, boats and clouds - his signature motifs. The paintings, pastels and prints featured in this exhibition reveal Resika's acute color sense, as well as his deftly drawn gestures.

In the early 80's, Resika bought a house in Provincetown with a view of the harbor and ocean. He has spent every summer there since. A constant source of inspiration, Resika explores the relationship between the solid geometry of the boats and fish houses and the ever-changing qualities of light and water.

Resika has exhibited in such prestigious institutions as the National Academy of Design; the Museum of Modern Art; the Smithsonian Institute; and the Art Institute of Chicago. He has received numerous grants and awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and election to the National Academy of Design.
