WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Laura Duis
WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville,
NC, will feature original acrylic paintings by Laura Duis, from
June 1 - 30, 2006.
Duis' paintings are inspired by happy neighborhoods which surround
us everyday. Her mastery is in the combination of expansive movement,
sunny colors, and stylized forms - energy and stability mixing
with what we know and what is in our hearts. Pleasant subjects
and pretty images, Duis' art is so beautiful it makes you happy
just to look at it!
Duis' paintings reflect her background of a fine arts education,
work in graphic art and design, as well as an abiding interest
in book illustration. Originally from Toledo, OH, Duis graduated
from Bowling Green State University, where she took a special
interest in drawing and printmaking. With a scholarship to the
School of Advertising Art in Dayton, intensive studies were devoted
to illustration.
Duis' work has been featured in numerous publications including the instructional books, Exploring Color by Nita Leland and Painting the Effects of Weather by Patricia Seligman, as well a The Artist's Magazine calendar. Her paintings have been juried into exhibitions all over the country, winning numerous awards, and have been purchased by Central Carolina Bank, Hospice of Dayton and Kettering Medical Center. Duis is the recipient of an Arts & Science grant and Jasper, a children's book she illustrated was published in 2003 by Novello Festival Press.
Duis is encouraged by her husband Jim, and under the discriminating supervision of two feline companions, they enjoy a wonderful life in North Carolina.
