June Issue 2007
Beaufort Art Association in Beaufort, SC, Features Works by Karen M. Peluso & Rose Harrison
The Beaufort Art Association in Beaufort, SC, is presenting the exhibits: Visual Poetry: Beaufort and Beyond, featuring fine art photography by Karen M. Peluso, on view through June 23, 2007 and Painting the World Through Rose-Colored Glasses, featuring watercolors by Rose Harrison, on view through June 26 through Aug. 4, 2007. Both exhibits will be on view at the BAA Gallery in the historic Elliott House in downtown Beaufort.
Critic Ed Wismer describes Karen Peluso's work as, "atmospheric and poeticoften hauntingturns everyday places and things into something exceptional...an artistic triumph." Peluso also hand-colors photographs (with Marshalls' oils) honoring the craft perfected by the late eighteenth and early to mid-twentieth century masters. A selection of hand-colored images will be included in the exhibit as well as photographs on canvas.
Peluso also exhibits at Art & Soul Gallery
in Beaufort and the Beaufort Art Association's satellite locations.
A post-graduate career in clinical psychology led Rose Harrison
to her private practice treating survivors of emotional or physical
trauma where she says "art therapy helped her patients
process feelings of frustration and helplessness and 'speak' about
unspeakable things." Harrison says she "sees the world
as a watercolor painting with lots of soft edges, blended details
and no harsh realities of life." Her goal is to find
the mid-point between realism and impressionism. Her paintings
have been described as "peacefully exciting."
New works by more than 90 exhibiting members of the Beaufort Art
Association are also on view at the gallery. Exhibits change every
six weeks along with each succeeding featured artist. In addition
to framed paintings in a variety of media, the gallery offers
prints, photographs, unframed matted originals, jewelry, sculpture,
ceramics and greeting cards.
