Grove Arcade ARTS & Heritage Gallery in Asheville, NC, Features Karen Weihs
The Grove Arcade ARTS & Heritage Gallery in Asheville, NC, will be featuring Karen Weihs at the Aug. 3, 2007, Artwalk in Asheville. Painter and author Karen Weihs will be demonstrating and signing copies of her new book Out of My Mind at the gallery from 5-8pm. Weihs will be an artist-in-residence at the gallery, located in Asheville's historic Grove Arcade, from Aug. through Oct., 2007.
Out of My Mind is described as a book about painting in oils but offers readers much more. According to Weihs, the book provides life lessons, business advice and guidance for those on a personal creative quest. "This book was born out of sharing," says Weihs. "Through teaching and being taught, I have learned that people who develop their creativity are more confident and courageous in life. Whether your profession is one of retail, medicine, service, writing, or the arts, pursuing your creative self will deepen your life and work experience."
Weihs paints evocative landscapes and streetscapes inspired by her native Charleston, SC, and new homes in Cashiers and Asheville. Whether depicting a low country marsh or a foothills sunset, her canvases are imbued with a love of place and a quiet sense of celebration.
Weihs retired to Western North Carolina with her husband Chris after long careers in the Charleston restaurant business. From their home in Cashiers, Skylight Farms, Weihs offers two painting workshops per year and hosts other professional artists.
The Grove Arcade ARTS & Heritage Gallery offers free public programs and demonstrations. The Artists-in-Residence demonstrate for the public Fri., Sat. and Mon., from 11am-5pm and Sun. from noon-5pm. A schedule of additional events can be found by calling 828/252-7799 or visit (www.grovearcade.com).
