Hickory Museum of Art in Hickory, NC, Features Works from It's Permanent Collection
Hickory Museum of Art in Hickory, NC, will present the exhibition, American Light: From the Hudson River to the Blue Ridge, featuring landscapes from the Museum's Permanent Collection. The exhibit will be on view from June 23 through Oct. 14, 2007, in the Shuford Gallery located on the first floor.
The exhibition is not only a beautiful collection of landscape paintings, but a timeline of artistic styles and movements. Efforts were made to cover each time period from the Hudson River era to contemporary times, though each painting was considered first for its beautiful concept and execution. Representatives from the following artistic movements and styles are in the show: Hudson River School, Luminism, Tonalism, American Impressionism, and 20th Century Painting. Thirty artists comprise the show, including Thomas Cole, Alfred Bricher, George Pearse Ennis, Elliott Daingerfield, Wolf Kahn, and Paul Whitener the founder of the Hickory Museum of Art.
The works in American Light were selected by three painters affiliated with the Museum, who consider the works the best examples of landscapes in the Permanent Collection. Kate Worm is Hickory Museum of Art's (HMA) High School/Adult Educator, and coordinator of this exhibit. Steve Brooks is an HMA Board Member and is Chairman of the Exhibitions Committee. Warren Dennis is a retired Professor of Art and Art History at Appalachian State University and is a former long-time member of the HMA Acquisitions Committee.
