June Issue 2007

Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Jim Chapman

One cannot help but notice the obvious delight that Jim Chapman takes in creating his paintings. A solo exhibition of Chapman's works will open on June 8 at Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, continuing on view through June 28, 2007.

Chapman studied at Appalachian State University under John Groth, of the Art Students League, as well as William Dunlap, Warren Dennis, and Noyes Long. In 1985, Chapman assisted Jeanne Claude and Christo on their Miami Surrounded Islands project. He has completed projects for the North Carolina Department of Tourism as well as several private commissions. Chapman's works can be seen in the collections of Hugh McColl, Wachovia, Raycom, Bank of America, FDIC and RJR - Nabisco.

Chapman's bright and intense landscape and still life images evoke a playful and intense appreciation for color, form and technique. He has developed a highly personal, unique style while addressing the traditional subject matter of still life and landscape. Chapman's palette is an inspired variation on Post-Impressionism color theory combined with a keen observation of the natural world. Indeed, his richly textured paintings are a feast for the eyes.
