The Haen Gallery in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Larry Gray and Werner Haker
The Haen Gallery in Asheville, NC, is presenting the exhibit, From Here to Here, featuring new work by the two local artists Larry Gray and Werner Haker. The exhibition will continue through June 19, 2007.
Larry Gray
Larry Gray resides in Pisgah Forest, NC, and his work has been shown and collected widely from coast to coast. His landscapes are expansive in depth and rich in color, providing magnificent atmospheric studies of time, light, and space. Gray is originally from Tennessee, attended both the University of Georgia and Yale, then taught for many years at Humboldt State University in northern California before moving to western North Carolina. According to the artist land is a primary influence in his work. Grays landscapes are not representational of any specific locale but rather composites of the many beautiful terrains he has held dear on his journey to becoming the accomplished artist he is today. His work is now included in the collections of MOMA in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, among others.
Werner Haker is a resident of Brevard, NC, and has been working as a full time artist since 2003, after many decades as a successful architect. He works in abstraction to present what he considers the essential the dichotomy between the rational and the irrational. Hakers mixed media canvases are large and striking, combining elements of structured lines and geometric color fields with loose paint strokes and drippings, as well as pieced-in narrative imagery. Haker asks for viewer participation, allowing for each individual to see his or her own insight into the work. Over the years he has won great esteem for his work as an innovator, artist, and designer. Since he began painting he has successfully exhibited in several galleries in the Carolinas.
From Here to Here is an exhibition dedicated to a sense of place and belonging. On display will be Larry Grays atmospheric landscapes, done with his unique process of dry pigment on paper, and Werner Hakers newest canvas series On The Way; A View from Becky Mountain.
