The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC, Features Works by Alison Overton
The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC, will present the exhibit, Dream Days, featuring hand-tinted photographs by Alison Overton, on view from June 3 - 24, 2007 at the Horace Williams House.
A recurring theme in Overton's work is the architectural landscape with a sense of history. The work on exhibit was taken on recent journeys to Britain. As a lifelong artist, she strives to explore and expand her definition of the unique and mysterious in life and nature.
Overton writes, "For the photographs in the Dream Days exhibit, I utilized the Holga 120S, a toy camera with a plastic lens, exposing black and white Tri-X film. The collage effect in my prints results from moving the camera's film advance manually and randomly after each exposure - then printing a desired section from the long, continuous negative. After printing the negative onto matte fiber based paper, I over paint the prints with Marshall's transparent oil paints."
