Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC, Offers Works by Drew Deane
The Tryon Painters & Sculptures proudly present the work of Brevard, NC, artist and gallery owner Drew Deane at the Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC. The exhibit entitled, The Road-The Lites, Drew Deane, will be on view in Gallery 1 at the Center from June 17 through July 7, 2007.
Deane's oil paintings of road signs and brilliantly rendered neon lights stir up a bit of nostalgia for the viewer. These close-up signs remind us of past and present travels. The neon lights hold a promise through their brilliance, especially in the night sky, that we have reached a motel, restaurant or an entertainment business along the way. Deane captures these nostalgic memories both for herself and the viewer.
According to the artist, "The road, the lights, the words, the places - all capture my spirit. Oh, and by the way, did I mention that as a child I hung out with my three spinster great aunts who owned a motor court, the Camellia Court in Silver Springs, FL - the land of glass bottomed boats? I couldn't wait for it to be dark enough to turn on the neon sign."
Following her graduation from the University of Kentucky Deane went on to receive her MFA in Drawing/Painting through the University of Florida in 1985. Deane's professional career has brought her numerous grants and awards, as well as, having five works included in the publication of Community Arts 45th Annual Juried Illustration Competition 2004.
Deane's paintings have been accepted into a
multitude of juried exhibits throughout the Southern states and
along the Eastern coastline. Most recently Deane served as juror
for the Western North Carolina Biennial Competition held
at the Tryon Fine Art Center. Found in many corporate and private
collections, Deane is currently represented by Center for the
Earth, Charlotte, NC; Rentz Gallery, Richmond, VA; and Vision
Gallery, Atlantic Beach, NC.
