July Issue 2000
Robert Hild is the Featured Artist at the Library in Beaufort, SC, for July
The works of painter, printmaker, art educator, and Beaufort Art Association member, Robert Hild, will be on view at the Art Among the Books Gallery in Beaufort, SC, through July 31, 2000.
Well known in the Lowcountry, Hild taught at USC-Beaufort in 1999 and recently moved to Charlottesville, VA, where he is devoting all his energies to his art.
He grew up in Pennsylvania and worked there as well as Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia over the last 30 years. Hild is a member of American Watercolor Society and received his Doctorate of Arts from Carnegie Mellon University in Screen Printmaking. His work has appeared in more than 155 juried and invitational exhibitions including eight AWS Shows at the National Galleries in New York; National Academy of Design; two Butler Institute Mid-Year Annuals in Youngs Town, Ohio and State-wide exhibitions in Georgia, Pennsylvania and South Carolina, including winning the Margaret Scheper Trask Memorial Award at Beaufort Art Association's 38th Spring Exhibit in 1999.
During 1999 he began working on a series of images that are his impressions of the Beaufort Coastal region. "The joy and beauty of the seacoast as the weather both lifts and lowers the human spirit" interested him. Its daily beauty as the beau in Beaufort implies, and the constant pulling down of the shrinking coastline with every full moon or heavy storm impelled him to do a series entitled Ebb and Flow. He has completed seven images and more are in the making.
