Will Henry Stevens Exhibition & More Featured at Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC

Meditations on Nature: Realism to Abstraction, an exhibition of never before displayed works by Will Henry Stevens (1881-1949) is on view at Blue Spiral 1, along with several other exhibitions, in Asheville, NC, through Aug. 24.

Will Henry Stevens

Stevens, who taught at Sophie Newcomb College of Art at Tulane University in New Orleans, traveled extensively while painting the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina and the lowlands of Louisiana. His work is in major museum collections including the Smithsonian's American Art Museum, Washington, DC, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA, and the Tulane University Collection, New Orleans, LA.

Blue Spiral 1 represents the estate of Will Henry Stevens on a continual basis and is proud to present this exhibition that visually maps the artist's exploration of the landscape. In Stevens' work, the experience of an individual communing with nature becomes a colorful visual dialogue that straddles the worlds of representation and abstraction using the artist's own poetic nature as a filter.

A 14,000 square foot gallery specializing in Southeastern fine art and craft, Blue Spiral 1 is the perfect setting in which to experience the work of Will Henry Stevens, one of the South's most prolific modern masters. Stevens was proficient in a variety of media including pastel, oil, mixed media and watercolor, all of which are included in this exhibition.

Meditations on Nature: Realism to Abstraction, is on view in Gallery 2.

Judy V. Jones

Exhibitions of new works by Michael Costello, Judy V. Jones, Heather L. Allen and Randy Shull are also on view at Blue Spiral 1 through Aug. 24. Kinetic wood sculpture complements abstract still life paintings on view in Gallery 1 where Michael Costello and Judy Jones share the floor. This duo is sure to please every viewer, from those interested in tranquil formal abstraction to those who enjoy interactive art.

Randy Shull

Randy Shull, whose sculptural objects incorporate hidden vestiges and secret compartments, will be displayed in Gallery 2. Shull's constructions use a painterly surface and bright colors to create a menagerie of pieces whose integrity falls somewhere between fine art and high-end handcraft.

Heather L. Allen's new fiber works, on display in Gallery 3, consist of a brilliant palette of hand dyed fabrics that explore her meditations on nature. Allen's pieces are engaging because the viewer is allowed to inhabit the imaginary spaces that the artist has created.

The Showcase Gallery featured artist for the month of July is English born painter, Julyan Davis. Davis' inspired oil paintings capture the quiet inherent moments in the natural environment of Western North Carolina. The Showcase Gallery in August will feature glass works by Shane Fero. The mythological characters in Fero's work dance to a rhythm created by his imagination.
