The Charlotte Halpert Biennial, a national, juried exhibition of two dimensional works featured as part of An Appalachian Summer Festival, will be on display from July 1 through Sept. 30 in the Catherine J. Smith Gallery, located in Farthing Auditorium on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
The Charlotte Halpert Biennial, made possible by a generous endowment from Buddy Halpert, and sponsored by DeWoolfson Down Products, Inc., is designed to recognize and encourage new works by emerging and established artists residing in the US.
For the 2001 Halpert Biennial, the juror is Alan Eaker, whose career in the visual arts includes both an academic and an art publishing background. He is currently Vice President of Third Millennium Fine Arts, Inc. and a Professor of Art at the University of South Florida where he has also served as the Art Department Chair and as the Director of The Institute for Research in Art: Graphicstudio. While at USF and as owner of Pyramid Arts, Ltd., he collaborated with many artists including Richard Anuszkiewicz, Sandro Chia, Leslie Dill, Jim Dine, Nancy Graves, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jim Rosenquist.
A Gallery Talk by juror Alan Eaker, followed by a reception and announcement of the competition's winners, is scheduled for July 21 at 2pm in the gallery. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
