ArtFest on Main (formerly Sidewalk Art Show) in Hendersonville, NC, August 3 & 4
Come and see the largest outdoor art gallery in Western NC on Aug. 3 & 4 from 10am to 5pm both days, rain or shine. Sponsored by the Art league of Henderson County, over 100 artists from as far away as California will display thousands of pieces of artwork. Because of our growth, this year we have expanded the tents from the sidewalks onto Main Street, which will be closed to traffic as well as the cross avenues from 1st Avenue to 6th Avenue. (Thereby the reason for the name change.) This will give the artists more room for tent space to show their works and offer a pleasing, more professional atmosphere to purchase artwork. This change also improves the accessibility to the sidewalks and the store merchants, since artists can open both sides of their tents to accommodate the people approaching from the street and the sidewalk.
Artfest on Main will be unique in that there will continue to be only two dimensional, framable art of all media, including photography...with no food stands, dancers, or bands. Picture yourself shopping for art as you stroll down ten blocks of our beautiful, serpentine-shaped Main Street lined with trees and planters abloom with flowers and hanging baskets. Class is evident... and as you listen to beautiful piped-in music and feel the clear mountain air, the mood will beckon you toward the many colorful, original pieces of art, prints and photography fitting for any home business or pocketbook. Hendersonville's refreshing, mountainous location draws thousands of tourists to the area and to its historic downtown, where shopping is a delight in our quaint shops with restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisine opportunities for your dining pleasure.
Southern hospitality is obvious where Main Street's Gazebo mans volunteers to help artists and to guide visitors. There are many places to refresh with a cool drink and rest on our new, beautifully designed green benches.. or watch as several artists demonstrate their techniques. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be selling bottled water at the Gazebo and along the festival route. From 7 to 9pm Friday night enjoy listening to live Music on Main at the Historic Courthouse lawn while touring the artist's tents, some of which will remain open after 5pm.
Be sure to stop by the Historic Courthouse to check out the Silent Auction where you can bid on paintings donated by Art League members, and if your bid is high enough, you may win an original work of art. All proceeds go to the Art League of Henderson County to support their education fund, which goes to promote art in the county schools.
For the first year we are proud to introduce our new Student Art Exhibit where many high school art students will display and sell their art. So, look for their booth in our Artist Directory, Which will be passed out on Main Street, where you can also locate your favorite artist(s) by tent space number.
