July Issue 2001
Shain Fine Art in Charlotte, NC, Shows Works by Marilyn Simandle & Helps Out the Film Industry
Shain Fine Art Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will
be showing works by Marilyn Simandle through July 31, 2001. The
works featured in the exhibit entitled Capturing Light
are are oil on linen.
Simandle has always known that she would become an artist. Learning
from her mother, a musician and painter in her own right, she
started painting watercolors at age 6. Simandle received her BFA
from San Jose State University. She went on to share her developed
knowledge and incredible talent by teaching art and conducting
workshops throughout California and at the Scottsdale Artists'
School for the past 15 years. A native Californian, she now resides
in the Santa Ynez Valley with her husband, Ted Goerschner, also
an artist, where she explores all her passions: painting, gardening,
playing bridge and horseback riding.
In her paintings, Simandle tries to convey her own personal philosophy
of art. She loves to explore the complex interplay of light and
its effects on architecture and surroundings. An avid traveler
and photographer, Simandle uses her photographs simply as the
starting point, an inspiration. In her composition, she paints
what she wants the subject matter to be, engaging collectors with
uplifting paintings filled with harmonious color, depth and vitality.
While striving for truth in her paintings she does believe that
"perfection is the energy of great art." A single brush
stroke can speak volumes in a painting. Simandle is inspired and
influenced by the poetry in the brush strokes of John Singer Sargent
and Joaquin Sorolla.
A member of several national art organizations, Simandle has been featured in numerous publications and national juried and invitational shows, winning many awards. In the fall of 2000 she produced a coffee table book entitled Contagious Enthusiasm.
Shain Fine Art has been assisting 20th Century Fox in the production of the Farrelly Brothers' movie Shallow Hal, which is being filmed in Charlotte this summer. The set decorator for the film saw some of the work by gallery artists used to decorate a home during the recent Provence Festival in Charlotte. Gabrielle Shain, owner of Shain Fine Art was contacted by the decorator and soon works were being supplied for use in the movie.
Paintings from the gallery were used in the
home of one of the film's characters, who is a wealthy financier,
and for a restaurant scene. Paintings used were by Geoffrey Johnson,
Dennis Compay, Marilyn Simandle, Amy Dobbs, Laura Buxton, Robert
Frank, Henry Barnes, Janet Powers, and Paula Wright. If you want
a little piece of Hollywood fame in your home or office, just
visit the gallery and ask to see the recent set props.
