July Issue 2003
Church Street Inn Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Jane Woodward
Charleston, A Personal
View is an exhibition
of new oil paintings by Jane Woodward at the Church Street Inn
Gallery in Charleston, SC. The works will be featured from
July 1 through Aug. 1, 2003 and include intimate views of historic
buildings as well as gardens and seascapes. Most of the scenes
are plein air paintings, done on site to capture fleeting atmospheric
conditions.
Woodward's work is representational, yet expressionistic. Each
piece is charged with an emotion which is generated by the artist's
intense feelings about the subject. She uses vibrant color
and energetic brushstrokes to convey the intangible experience
of peace, joy, or excitement.
Primarily a landscape/seascape artist, Woodward has worked in
a variety of subjects, particularly southern architecture. She
exhibits along the Carolina coast and has shown throughout the
country. Her work has been featured in the Southern Living
Showcase House in Brookgreen Gardens. Woodward has also done
numerous murals, one of which can been viewed at the Wildlife
Center at Huntington Beach, SC.
Woodward was born in upstate SC and currently lives near Charleston. She attended Winthrop University as an Art Major, and has been painting virtually all of her life. She considers her talent to be God-given and finds the best teacher to be "within". "I consider painting to be truly spiritual. I try to understand the underlying truth of each subject and then create an image which is visually pleasing, and yet moves the viewer in some way."
