Touchstone Gallery in Henderson, NC, Reaches Peace Project Goal
At the start of May 2003, Touchstone Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, announced the start of The Peace Crane Project with the goal of folding a 1,000 Cranes for Peace based on the Japanese origami practice. As of June 4, 2003 the goal was achieved and exceeded.
Touchstone is honored to present this installation artwork in its Main Street display windows. There are 1,040 Peace Cranes in the installation. These folded prayers for peace have come from members of both the Hendersonville and Asheville, NC, communities as well as from Spokane, WA, Oshkosh, WI, St. Peters Beach, FL, Port Republic, MD, Tucson, AZ, as well as a Peace Crane from Sweden.
The installation will stay in place for the balance of the year. And, as new Peace Cranes are received, they will be added to the Peace Flock.
The Gallery invites visitors to Main Street to visit this installation to experience the gentle energy engendered by these visual prayers for peace. Or to view from a distance go to (www.hendersonville.org) and click on Peace Cranes.
The staff of the gallery continues to fold Peace Cranes as a fund raising endeavor for the Global Art Project 2004. A string of five Peace Cranes may be purchased for $5 to raise funds for this international art project for peace.
