July Issue 2003
Wickwire Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Bill and Pam Clark
WICKWIRE fine art/folk art, located in historic
downtown Hendersonville, NC, ". . .where the heart finds
art" proudly features the ceramic artwork of Bill and Pam
Clark throughout the month of July, 2003.
The hand thrown and decorated art pottery of Bill and Pamela Clark
is completely original, not reproductions of the past. Their pottery
is influenced by the mission style, Arts and Crafts Movement of
the early 1900's. Each piece is carefully made with unique shapes,
organic designs, and flowing colors to be one of a kind.
Bill studied art ceramics at Newcomb College
in New Orleans and has been making art pottery for over 30 years
in addition to working in automation and robotics as a machine
designer. Pam studied art at Winthrop University in Rock Hill,
SC, but pursued a career in Radiation Therapy as a graduate from
the Medical University of South Carolina. She remained interested
in art but fell in love with pottery, and with Bill when taking
classes from him a few years ago. The two married in Florence,
Italy and came back to South Carolina, bought a home, and built
their spacious studio under the tall trees, in their own backyard.
The Clarks' work has been featured by the South Carolina Governor's
School for the Arts and Humanities in their annual galas, exhibited
and sold in select galleries, and featured in annual events in
North and South Carolina. Chosen by the South Carolina State Museum,
the Clarks' pottery is displayed in the museum's permanent collection.
Their work is also in the York County Art Museum's permanent collection
as well as other private collections. The L. & J. Stickley
Company, Aurora, New York selected Bill and Pam for their seven
retail stores. Their unique, mission style ceramics and pagoda
lamps are shown as far West as California.
