July Issue 2004
Hilton Head Public Library on Hilton Head Island, SC, Offers Works by Camera Club
Larry Coffin
A new exhibit of original photographic artwork
by members of the Camera Club of Hilton Head Island is on view
through July 30, 2004, at the Hilton Head Public Library on Hilton
Head Island, SC.
The event, the fourth annual, has become more and more popular
over the years, with 94 photos being shown last year by some 34
Camera Club members. A favorite feature of the exhibit has been
a "People's Choice" contest judged by the public. For
the first 10 days of the exhibit viewers of the photographs were
able to vote for the first three places plus two honorable mentions
to be awarded. Winners' names are posted near their photos.
The exhibit will include both film and digital photographs, with digital work rapidly gaining in popularity. Many of the photos will be available for sale. Chairman of this year's event was Don Nelson.
The Camera Club, founded 16 years ago, has 123 members. Regular meetings are held on the third Tue. of each month (except July and Aug.) at 7:30pm in the conference room (rear entrance) of Palmetto Electric Coop, on Hilton Head. The public is invited to attend. Programs are designed to both educate and entertain and promote the sharing of skills, and include organized field trips to provide new photographic opportunities as well as social activities. Dues are $20 a year, which includes a monthly newsletter and the opportunity to display photos in club exhibits, including those at the Library and the Greer Gallery of the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.
