July Issue 2005
53 Cannon St. Gallery has Opened in Charleston, SC
53 Cannon St. Gallery in Charleston, SC, opened on Apr. 29, 2005, with a show of traditional oil paintings by acclaimed Charleston artist William McCullough, the father of gallery owner and manager, Currie McCullough. Since then the gallery has included works by artist Bruno Civitico, an Italian born Charlestonian, whose skillfully rendered neo classical figure drawings, landscapes, and still lifes, are in over 200 museum, corporate, and private collections world wide.
While the Spoleto Festival USA was going on in Charleston, the gallery expanded once again hosting a show called Up & Coming. The exhibit meshed the work of traditional established artists including Mary Edna Fraser and Sean Sexton with surrealist young artists Kevin Taylor, and Helen Rice. On the second floor of the gallery old world realism merged with abstract paintings by Karin Olah and Charles Dupre DeAntonio. In the garden, artist Aaron Baldwin contributed a giant scuptural head that stared back at the hundreds of art show attendees.
Starting on July 29, the gallery will offer
the exhibit, The Nude Show, featuring nude figure paintings and
drawings by artists Bruno Civitico, William McCullough, Tony Griffin,
Douglas Balentine and several other noted regional artists. The
exhibit will continue through Aug. 22, 2005.
