Charleston Art & Portraits Features Works by Kelly Green

"Flowers are such delicate creations that are gone in the blink of an eye," says fine art photographer Kelly Green. "Initially, it's the color of the flower that catches my attention. But what moves me to squeeze the shutter is the shape, flow, and inherent sensuality of the flower itself."

Green's most recent work is shooting deep inside of flowers, presenting an apparently abstract image. In fact, they are examples of her expertise in macro photography - the art of shooting things close up. The work in her new one-woman exhibit, Floral Fantasies, like all her work, is hand printed. The show will be on exhibit from July 15 through Aug. 13, 2005, at Charleston Art & Portraits, in Charleston, SC.

Green has exhibited in fine art galleries and private collections from Seattle, WA, to Charleston, SC, and is an active donor of her work to assist charitable organizations in raising money for their foundations. She participated as a photographer in the Who Among Us multimedia exhibition at the City Gallery at the Waterfront Park in Charleston, in 2004. It helped bring attention to Charleston's homeless population.

A South Carolina native, Green has been a fine art photographer for the past ten years. She uses a Pentax 35mm camera for all of her photographs, whether macro photography or her other area of expertise - candid portraits and travel photography.
Green has been living in and photographing the Lowcountry for the past 2 years. She received her formal training from the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, MT, but considers herself mostly self taught.

"As with any discipline of study, all the classes in the world are useless until you apply the knowledge through experience," says Cecile Langham Cothran, owner of the gallery and oil portraitist, whose studio is located in the gallery. "Kelly is dedicated to her work, and is top notch in her field. More importantly, to most of us, her images are truly beautiful." The pieces in this show represent a new palette of colors for the artist. This body of work was on Fuji Velvia 50 film.

A resident artist and represented by the gallery, Green was most recently part of the two person show, Montana, Africa and Beyond, which exhibited her wildlife photography, and was sponsored by Charleston Art & Portraits.
