Hilton Head Art League on Hilton Head Island, SC, Offers Works by Marian Taylor

The Hilton Head Art League is pleased to present an exhibition of watercolor paintings by Marian Taylor titled, Earth and Sky. The exhibit runs from July 5 - 30, 2005, at the Hilton Head Art League Gallery in Pineland Station on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Taylor grew up in Huntington, WV, where a remarkable high school art teacher set her on the path to an art career. She majored in art at Marshall University and then studied at the world renowned Ringling School of Art. Taylor did advertising art for a department store and free-lanced in her spare time.

After a hiatus for child rearing, she began painting again, inspired by workshops given by accomplished artists like Judy Betts, Frank Webb, Nita Engle, Mary Whyte, Joyce Nagel, Don Theodore and Tom Ratliffe.

Taylor quotes from Julia Cameron's book, The Artist's Way, as the perfect description of her sentiments about art "I believe God has given all of us a creative spirit and using that spirit is our gift back to God."

A twelve-year resident of Hilton Head Island, she enjoys working on a porch converted to a studio that boasts north light and expansive views of the marsh, flowers and the joys of nature. "I found the things that most inspire me are the beauty of the sky, sea and beaches," says Taylor. "The wonderful rocky groins along the beaches seem to mark space like exclamation marks, and the many changes of light, mood and dramatic color make painting such a joy in this area."

Numerous photos taken during her marriage of 48 years also serve as inspiration for some of her work. Taylor adds, "As you view these paintings, I pray that you, too, will rejoice in this beautiful island of ours and all the many blessings it bestows on each of us."

The Hilton Head Art League is a not-for-profit membership organization, dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the community and expanding the art skills of its members. It provides workshops with nationally renowned art instructors and operates the Art Academy on Cordillo Parkway where local artists provide art instruction to all ages and levels of skill.
